My Story
Hi everyone, my name is Jerry Gambrel. When the creator of this web site asked me to tell the readers a little bit about myself I was somewhat dumbfounded. Normally I wouldn't hesitate to talk about myself. Being the "runt of the litter", standing only about 5' 5" I learned at an early age how to get attention. But this kind of attention is different. Now I have to say something about myself to get people to trust me. So here goes.....
I was born at the Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox Kentucky in 1957. I guess for a few weeks anyway I was an Army brat were my father was stationed in the military. Of course, as fate would have it, my twin brother "Terry" got all of the height standing 6' tall and, compared to me, appeared to be chiseled from granite. Growing up I did indeed excel in sports. Although my career existed mostly in my own back yard in Crothersville Indiana, where I still live to this day. I've always had a passion for sports and I still consider myself a "ballpark rat" spending what little spare time I have either taking pictures at a local ball game or going to watch one just for the fun of it.
![]() Without a doubt the most important part of my life came in the Spring of 1978. It was then that I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior! Since then God has blessed me in every way possible. I met a wonderful young lady in 1987 and 2 years later we were married and 3 years after that reality set in!.......Fatherhood!.......WOW-CHEE-MAMA!.......Our son was born kicking and screaming and he had perfected that role until his baby sister took over 2 years later. I guess it was then I decided.....I needed a hobby! Thank God my son was a better athlete than his old man. During the years he made the baseball All-Star teams I was always the geek out there taking pictures. Not to be outdone by his little sister (who often reminded me) "I hate sports", she would always get in front of the camera for her own personal "photo shoot".
![]() And this is when the TrophyKidz business started. I had already been involved in woodworking for several years making everything from 16th century naval battleships to huge Victorian dollhouses to giant Noah's Arks with all the animals. I got the TrophyKidz idea from walking around the shopping malls and noticing the cardboard cut outs of athletes like Michael Jordan and others. I started combining my woodworking skills with some of the pictures of my kids and the finished result is........TrophyKidz! After taking some of my own kids statues to the baseball, football, and soccer fields and seeing the people go crazy over them when I explained to them that I could make one of these out of "their" kids pictures.....well....to borrow an old line.............."The rest is history"!.........Chalk one up for the little guys!
